MICR Checks

FUNCTION:

We can set up a program to print the MICR encoding on blank check stock so that each TNET account can have a separate checking account.

Some clients choose to have a separate running check number sequence for each checking account. Others choose to have a single check number sequence so that each check number is unique to the office.

If your check printer has multiple bins, we can

  • direct the checks to pull paper from a certain bin
  • print a plain paper copy of each check from a separate bin
We can configure your program to print electronic signatures on all checks, or on certain checks. This can be done with software, or with a combination of software and hardware. Here are some options that clients have asked for in the past:

  • mark checks over $500 for two signatures
  • allow electronic signature selection during check entry, so that you can indicate which person’s electronic signature should print, and whether any additional blank lines should print for ink signatures
  • use either a signature cartridge (that can be locked in a secure drawer) or a signature bitmap embedded securely inside the program.
If you want a logo to be printed on blank stock, we can embed that logo in the program.

With a custom program, you can control the check consolidation rules to override the settings in the standard module. You might want to block all check consolidation, even if the data entry person accidentally requests it.

We can create an authorization page for an officer’s signature, or an advice notice to be mailed to your client.

BENEFITS:

A MICR Checks Program adds value to the core system by …

  • automating the production of checks from multiple accounts, which saves the trouble of dealing with multiple physical checkbooks. The automation prevents the possibility of picking up the wrong checkbook.

  • reducing the potential liability of holding physical checkbooks.

  • allowing you to add many other functions to streamline the check production process to fit your operations.

PREREQUISITE MODULES:

  • Check Writing. The check writing programs provide the place to enter all information about recurring and one-time payments.

  • MICR Check Printer. You will need a printer that is capable of printing the MICR font using the MICR ink cartridge. Most of our clients are working with a Troy printer, which is normally an add-on functionality based on a Hewlett Packard printer.
